Remember the name but can’t remember what kind.
We had gotten this huge turkey (4-5 ft tall) from some friends of ours back in the ’80’s. This turkey was one weird bird. He always stayed in the yard and would go around puffing out his chest like he was the king, just a gobbling away. He also liked to chase anything with wheels, especially bikes. Whenever Nayt was on his bike, Puff would chase him around the yard. I remember one time Jeff was working on the car, was knelt down on the ground and Puff jumped on his back. It was pretty hilarious. We finally gave him away to a neighbor and I heard he lived out the rest of his life there.
Nayt reminded me of two beagles Jeff got. One was named Shorty and the other I don’t remember.
Don’t remember too much about Codie but Nayt does.
Max was a very gentle dog. Can’t remember the breed. One day, though, Jeff left for work and Max followed his scent down the road. Well, needless to say, he got hit.
Tippy was a dog we got from Lourene. One day, he and Nayt went across the street to see Mary. Mary didn’t want him there so she chased him back home. At the same time a car was going by and hit him. Nayt saw the whole thing. Nayt, do you remember how old you were? I guess Tippy still ran home but by the time Nayt got to him, he was taking his final breath and wagged his tail a couple times as if to say good-bye.
Nicholas was Nayt’s dog and one day Jeff decided we couldn’t afford him anymore so he made all of us go with him to take Nicholas to the animal shelter.
Brother to Hooter.
A small dog I got from Terry. Part terrier. Nice dog. One day Mickie was visiting and Cocoa got out. When she left, she came back to let me know Cocoa got hit by the school bus down at the corner. I felt so bad. Took a long time before I told Terry.
A baby raccoon I found abandoned by it’s mother in 1986. Tamed and raised him. He loved to pick on my cats and climb my curtains. He also spent time outside in a pen I fixed up for him. Raccoons love to wash stones so he had his own personal wash basin with rocks and stones. One day he left. I figured it was time for him to find a mate.
Here’s one.
Can’t even begin to remember how many parakeets I’ve had. Most survived the cats but not all.
Kirsten was given two cockatiels when she was around 8 or 9 years old. Of course, when she moved out at 18, I inherited them. Never did name them. They lived a long time – about 10-12 years. One was naked (featherless) except for it’s wings. Never did know the sex of either. One day I found an egg in the bottom of the cage. Had no idea which one laid it. Neither one tried nesting on it but about a week later I found the naked one dead. Then about 2 years later, the other one died.
Part beagle dog I had when I was in high school. One day she left and never came back.
Long haired yellow cat. Brother to Crooked Tail and Maggie. Got hit by a car in September 2005 whle being chased by a stray cat.
She had two litters in the almost year I had her but never saw any of them. Then she got hit by a car.
Sister to Tiger Tom. Stays outside. Needs to be fixed before she adds to the cat population. Wouldn’t let me near her for the longest time but can now hold her. Doesn’t want anything to do with coming inside.
Kitten I found back in 1997(?). Had huge grub in neck. Vet got it out. Unfortunately, found out the dryer is not the place to go. Sad.
Mama Kitty was a cat I had when I lived in Otsego. She had a litter of kittens.
Son of Mama Kitty, sister of Girl Kitty. One of the best cats I ever had. Lived to be about 8. Loved to sit on my shoulders and watch me wash dishes. Developed a huge lump or cyst on chest and had to have him put to sleep. Nayt reminded me about how Boy Kitty loved to just sit around with his tongue hanging out. Don’t know why.
Daughter of Mama Kitty, sister of Boy Kitty
Border Collie I got from Terry. Very smart dog. Very protective, especially while in car and on lease. Otherwise, very nice. Swear she was part human. Passed away November 1999. She was 12 years old.
Part toy poodle, part terrier. Got her from Cheryl. Normal weight of 4lbs. But she was 10lbs when she was put to sleep (January 2004). Not because she over ate, just because her health was failing. Very lovable dog.
One day Cutie Pie decided to take her litter of 3 or 4 for a walk. They were gone nine days. I put an ad in the paper and someone actually spotted them about a mile and a half away. They all came home safe and sound.
Son of Cutie Pie
Daughter of Cutie Pie.
What can I say about Hooter. I swear he had 9 lives – well, 3 anyways. Almost died as a pup from being left behind from litter in tall, cold weeds. Nursed him back with heating pad and blankets. Then got hit by car – broke front right leg. Survived ice storm of 1987 (?) all by his self. Then Jeff decided he had to stay outside tied to chain and choker collar which became embedded in his neck. Then one day, Jeff told me Hooter got loose and we never saw him again. Well, needless to say, Jeff admitted to me several years later that he took Hooter out to the woods and shot him.
